Washington Initiatives & Referenda

Every initiative petition and referendum measure on file with the Washington Secretary of State, organized by election cycle. Washington uses three petition types: Initiatives to the People (direct citizen initiatives), Initiatives to the Legislature (citizen initiatives sent to the Legislature first), and Referendum Measures (citizen vetoes of recently-passed laws).

2026 cycle is in early stages. No citizen initiatives have been filed yet for the November 2026 ballot. The most recent active cycle is 2025 (47 initiatives filed, mostly by repeat petitioner Brian Heywood on parental rights and tax issues). Filings typically pick up as the deadline approaches.
